Pat Estabrook

Role and Background

Pat has a hugely impressive amount of experience in compliance having worked for the Legal Complaints Service, the Solicitors Regulation Authority and as Head of Compliance of a large private law firm.

Pat’s particular areas of expertise include SRA compliancefile reviews and complaints handling.  In particular, Pat has developed a wealth of knowledge in Anti-Money Laundering (AML).  She provides training and general AML advice to firms and also undertakes AML audits to ensure that firm’s policies and procedures comply with the AML legislation.

After gaining her degree in Law and Sociology from Warwick University, Pat joined what became the Legal Complaints Service in 2001, latterly managing teams dealing with high profile complaints.  She also managed a project dealing with coal health claims, resulting in in excess of £11m being returned to clients.  This project involved high level meetings with MP’s and Government Ministers.

When the LCS closed, Pat moved to the SRA as Head of Practice Standards.  She also managed the Assigned Risks Pool (ARP).

Pat has also a wealth of practical experience in law firm management.  After 11 years with the regulator, Pat moved to a private law firm as Head of Compliance.  During her time at the firm, it tripled in size and Pat was ultimately responsible for compliance across six ABS’s within five different offices, including one in Scotland and one in India.  In addition, Pat managed five legal teams with direct management of six staff and indirect management of a further 42 members of staff.
