Sarah has worked in the Legal Accounting field for nearly 30 years, having been a member of the ILFM throughout her career. Sarah qualified as a Fellow member of the ILFM in 2005, winning the ‘Wilfred Owen’ award or her dissertation on ‘Practice Management within a Law Firm’.
In 2007 Sarah wrote the accounting rules for the Association of Costs Draftsmen. Shortly afterwards Sarah became the ILFM Legal Practice and Procedures tutor, subsequently going on to become the ILFM Legal Practice Management examiner and correspondence tutor in 2011. Sarah also serves on the Institute’s Executive Committee, in which she was responsible for introduction and subsequent publication of various guidance notes like the VAT guide and the billing guide. Sarah has been awarded the “Aron Bowl” twice during her career for contributions to the profession.
In addition to her ILFM experience, Sarah has a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting and is a member of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants. She served as Chairperson of the ILFM between 2010-2012. Sarah is also qualified with the Institute of Leadership and Management. Sarah sits on the ILFM’s Training and Qualification Committee.
Before starting a family in 2009, Sarah was a member of the Territorial Army, having served overseas to include a number of Operational Tours: serving in Bosnia and Iraq, where her knowledge and experience had been utilised by the Coalition Provisional Authority. Sarah dealt directly with local Ministers to assist and oversee the budgets for all local provinces within the Southern region of Iraq.
In early 2012 Sarah was invited by LexisNexis PSL to write several practice notes for the compliance software and more recently become a panel expert for LexisNexis PSL on compliance. In 2012 Sarah also worked with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives to write their practice management and accounting training competencies. In November 2015 Sarah became the examiner for the ILFM Legal Practice Accounts Rule Diploma paper.
Sarah has worked for both small and medium size law firms fulfilling a variety of roles in Practice Management and Financial Compliance. More recently Sarah worked with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives to write their practice management and accounting training competencies. She is also a member of the SRA External Advisory Group on the role of the COFA.
